Digital photography, audio, video?

A new series of training sessions from JISC Digital Media has been announced covering using digital images, finding free images, recording lectures and digital photography amongst others.

What is JISC Digital Media?

JISC Digital Media (formerly known as TASI) is a JISC Advisory Service, which provides advice, guidance and training to the UK's Further and Higher Education community on:

  • Creating digital media resources specifically still images, moving images and sound resources
  • Delivering digital media resources to users
  • Using digital media resources to support teaching, learning and research
  • Managing both small and large scale digitisation projects

JISC Digital Media is hosted at the Institute for Learning and Research Technology (ILRT) at the University of Bristol.

Seen and Heard: Young people creating digital media

In light of the recent ‘Digital Britain’ report, Futurelab’s annual conference will be dedicated to exploring the opportunities and challenges for young people in becoming digitally active, and the implications for the professionals who work with them. Aimed at education practitioners, researchers and policy makers, ‘Seen and Heard: Young people creating digital media’ will take place on Thursday 8th October in Bristol.

There will be keynotes from Channel 4, the British Film Institute and Creativity, Culture and Education (CCE) England, and presentations from a number of innovative practitioners who are using digital media in the classroom. A selection of hands-on workshops will also be available including Imitating the Dog, Radio in Schools and Chew TV.

An early-bird discount applies to all bookings received before 20 September 2009.

Effective Practice in a Digital Age

The JISC publication 'Effective Practice in a Digital Age' is designed for those in further and higher education whose focus is on designing and supporting learning: academic staff, lecturers, tutors and learning support staff, facilitators, learning technologists and staff developers. Thew report argues that "What unites this diverse group is their interest in enhancing the quality of learning and teaching, and a curiosity about how technology can assist them."

Structured personal tutoring to engage undergraduate students on professional programmes

Drawing on the experiences of academics involved in personal tutoring and using cases from undergraduate professional health care programmes as exemplars, the seminar will examine the following key issues:

The challenges of personal tutoring in the era of mass higher education;
  • Supporting and operationalising cultural change in personal tutoring in a research led institution;
  • The aims and benefits of a structured approach to personal tutoring in professional healthcare programmes;
