The next e-Learning and cakes is on Thursday 27th January from 11-12 in the Seminar Room on the 7th Floor of the Library building. e-Learning and cakes is an informal gathering of anyone interested in the use of technology in learning & teaching. An opportunity to find out what's going on in the University, share what you're doing or just find out a bit more about learning technology - and cakes.

This time, as well as cakes, there will be an opportunity to get hands on with some tablet devices and see how they might be used in teaching and learning. Just come along any time between 11 and 12.

This month, following on from the SALT launch, as well as coffee and cake there will be an opportunity to play with the clickers and explore more of what Sam Webster and Jo Bishop were talking about. After a long break it's time for another e-Learning & cakes session. e-Learning & cakes is an informal gathering of anyone interested in the use of technology in learning & teaching. An opportunity to find out what's going on in the University, share what you're doing or just find out a bit more about learning technology - and cakes. This time there will be opportunity to play with a range of gadgets for creating audio and video podcasts quickly and easily.

The next E-Learning and Cakes session will be on Thursday 15th March at 11:00am in Room 703 on the 7th Floor of the Library building. It's not a formal meeting but a chance for anyone who is interested in using technology in learning to share what they are doing and find out what others are up to. Last time there was a good mix of academics, learning technologists, IT staff, project teams and PhD students, which led to some interesting and wide ranging discussion.

E-Learning & Cakes

Despite the snow Friday's E-Learning and Cakes had wide ranging discussions (and a wide range of cakes) on the following subjects -

• Using Personal Response Systems in large lectures.
• Social networking using Oremi.
• How to assess work in blogs and wikis.
• Creating and using podcasts.
• DACEs interactive website for asylum seekers.
• The Engineering 'Blackboard Quest' - podcast on this coming soon.
• The idea of a university wide session on Web 2.0. This met with approval from the academic staff present.

The next session will be at 11:00am on Thursday 15th March in Room 703, which is on the 7th Floor of the Library.

E-Learning & Cakes

E-learning and cakes has become so popular that we'll have to look for somewhere else to meet. Though the coffee is nice and the chairs are comfortable its a bit too noisy to hear what everyone is saying; and interesting stuff it was too. I didn't hear every conversation but I was involved or heard discussion of web 2.0, university wide e-learning training, DACE projects, e-portfolios, assessment, collaborative working, blogs, wikis............ and also cake.

One of the key things, for me anyway, is the opportunity just to see what's happening around the university and bounce ideas of other people who are working to the same ends.

We looking to meet sometime in late January and in a new venue.
